Monstera adansonii ‘Aurea Variegata’, commonly known as Monstera Adansonii Aurea Variegated, is a highly collectible tropical houseplant admired for its naturally fenestrated leaves and striking yellow-to-lime variegation. Each leaf develops its own unique pattern, creating a bold contrast against the plant’s rich green foliage and making every specimen visually distinctive.
Plant Characteristics
Monstera Adansonii Aurea Variegated produces thin to moderately firm, oval-to-elongated leaves with characteristic natural holes, or fenestrations, that become more pronounced as the plant matures. The aurea variegation may appear as marbling, sectoral patches, or splashes in shades of yellow, golden green, and lime.
This plant has a climbing and trailing growth habit. When provided with a moss pole, trellis, or other vertical support, it can develop larger, more mature foliage. Indoors, mature vines can grow several feet long depending on growing conditions, container size, and available support.
Care Guide
Provide bright, indirect light to support healthy growth and maintain attractive variegation. Avoid prolonged direct midday sun, which may scorch the lighter portions of the leaves.
Water when the top 1–2 inches of the growing medium begin to dry. Keep humidity around 60–80% when possible, with good air circulation. Ideal temperatures are approximately 65–85°F.
Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix containing materials such as orchid bark, perlite, coco chips, and a small amount of moisture-retentive substrate. Good drainage is essential to prevent overly wet roots. This variegated Monstera is generally considered a moderate-care tropical plant.
Why Collectors Love It
Collectors love Monstera Adansonii Aurea Variegated for its combination of dramatic fenestrated foliage and unpredictable golden-yellow variegation. Its climbing habit and evolving leaf patterns make it especially appealing to collectors who enjoy distinctive variegated aroids.
