Labisia sp. ‘Black Love’ is a distinctive tropical foliage plant admired for its exceptionally dark leaves and rich, velvety appearance. This collectible Labisia brings dramatic contrast to indoor plant displays and terrariums, making it especially appealing to collectors who appreciate unusual Southeast Asian foliage plants.

Plant Characteristics

Labisia sp. ‘Black Love’ develops elongated to broadly lance-shaped leaves with a deep green to nearly black coloration and a softly textured, velvety surface. Its dark foliage becomes the main visual feature, creating a bold yet elegant appearance even when the plant remains relatively compact.

The plant has a low, compact growth habit rather than a climbing or trailing form, making it suitable for shelves, display cabinets, humid indoor collections, and tropical plant arrangements. Mature size can vary depending on growing conditions, container size, humidity, and cultivation method.

Care Guide

Provide bright to medium indirect light and protect the foliage from intense direct sunlight, which may cause leaf damage. Keep the growing medium lightly and consistently moist, allowing the upper layer to begin drying before watering again. Avoid prolonged soggy conditions.

Labisia sp. ‘Black Love’ appreciates high humidity, ideally around 60–80%, with gentle air circulation. Maintain warm temperatures around 65–82°F and avoid cold drafts.

Use a loose, moisture-retentive but well-draining tropical mix containing materials such as coco coir, fine orchid bark, perlite, and organic matter. Overall care level is moderate, particularly because consistent humidity and moisture are beneficial for maintaining attractive foliage.

Why Collectors Love It

Collectors love Labisia sp. ‘Black Love’ for its dramatic near-black foliage, velvety texture, and compact tropical growth habit. Its unusual coloration makes it a striking addition to curated foliage collections.
