Alocasia portei Aurea Variegated, botanically known as Alocasia portei ‘Aurea Variegated’, is a dramatic rare tropical plant prized for its bold architectural leaves and golden-yellow variegation. With its deeply divided foliage, upright growth habit, and striking aurea patterning, this collector Alocasia brings a powerful tropical statement to any rare plant collection.

Plant Characteristics

This rare variegated Alocasia features large, deeply lobed leaves with a sculptural, almost palm-like appearance. The foliage has a smooth to lightly textured surface, supported by strong upright petioles that give the plant a bold and elegant silhouette. Its aurea variegation may appear as yellow, lime, or golden marbling across the green leaves, with each plant showing its own natural pattern and color intensity. As it matures, Alocasia portei can become a large statement plant with impressive height, wide leaf spread, and a strong tropical presence.

Care Guide

Grow Alocasia portei Aurea Variegated in bright, indirect light to support healthy growth and maintain vibrant variegation. Avoid harsh direct sun, which may scorch the lighter aurea areas. Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy, allowing the top layer to dry slightly between watering. This tropical plant prefers high humidity, ideally above 60%, and warm temperatures between 65–85°F. Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix with orchid bark, perlite, coco chips, and a small amount of moisture-retaining material to support strong roots.

Why Collectors Love It

Collectors love this plant for its rare aurea variegation, dramatic leaf structure, and impressive mature form. It is a premium choice for anyone seeking a large, architectural variegated Alocasia with strong visual impact.
