Alocasia gageana ‘Aurea Variegata’, commonly sold as Alocasia gageana Aurea Variegated, is a striking tropical aroid prized for its bright yellow-to-lime variegation and bold, upright foliage. In mature form, its large leaves and contrasting color patterns create a dramatic statement plant that appeals strongly to variegated Alocasia collectors.

Plant Characteristics

This variegated Alocasia develops broad, shield-shaped to heart-shaped leaves with a smooth surface and prominent veins. Its foliage displays varying patterns of green, yellow, lime, and golden variegation, with each leaf developing a unique appearance.

Alocasia gageana has an upright, clumping growth habit and can become a substantial tropical specimen when mature. Under favorable growing conditions, mature plants can develop larger leaves and multiple growth points, creating a dense, architectural appearance. Because variegation is naturally variable, the amount and pattern of yellow coloration may differ from leaf to leaf.

Care Guide

Provide bright, indirect light to maintain healthy growth and support attractive variegation. Avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight, which may scorch lighter sections of the leaves.

Water when the upper layer of the growing medium begins to dry, keeping the soil lightly moist but never waterlogged. Maintain moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60–80%, with good airflow.

Alocasia gageana Aurea Variegated prefers warm temperatures between 65–85°F. Use a loose, airy, well-draining aroid mix containing materials such as orchid bark, perlite, coco chips, and organic matter. Good drainage is essential to help prevent root problems. Care level is considered moderate.

Why Collectors Love It

Collectors love Alocasia gageana Aurea Variegated for its vibrant golden-yellow variegation, large mature foliage, and bold tropical form. Every new leaf can reveal a different variegation pattern, making the plant especially rewarding to grow and display.
