Alocasia gageana ‘Aurea Variegata’, commonly known as Alocasia gageana aurea variegated, is a striking tropical foliage plant admired for its bright yellow-to-lime variegation against fresh green leaves. Its compact growth habit and bold coloration make it especially appealing to collectors looking for a variegated Alocasia with strong visual impact without requiring excessive space.

Plant Characteristics

This variegated Alocasia produces broad, upright leaves with a smooth to lightly textured surface and an attractive heart-to-arrow-shaped form. The aurea variegation may appear as marbling, sectoral patches, speckling, or irregular yellow-green patterns, with every leaf developing differently.

Alocasia gageana has a relatively compact, clumping growth habit compared with many larger Alocasia species. Under favorable conditions, mature plants can develop fuller foliage and reach approximately 2–4 feet in height, although growth and final size depend on light, temperature, nutrition, and growing environment.

Care Guide

Provide bright, indirect light to maintain healthy growth and attractive variegation. Avoid intense midday sun, which may scorch the lighter portions of the leaves.

Water when the upper layer of the growing medium begins to dry, keeping the soil lightly moist but never waterlogged. Maintain moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60–80%, with good airflow. Temperatures between 65–85°F are preferred.

Use a loose, well-draining aroid mix containing materials such as orchid bark, coco chips, perlite, and a moisture-retentive component. Good drainage is essential to reduce the risk of root problems. Care level is generally moderate.

Why Collectors Love It

Collectors love Alocasia gageana aurea variegated for its vibrant yellow-green variegation, compact form, and constantly changing leaf patterns. Each new leaf offers a unique display, making this collectible variegated Alocasia especially rewarding to grow.
