Begonia maculata Variegated

Begonia maculata Variegated (Begonia maculata, variegated form) is a striking collector plant known for its angel-wing leaves, silver polka-dot markings, and beautiful variegated patterns. This tropical begonia brings a rare, decorative look to any indoor plant collection, making it especially attractive for collectors who love bold foliage plants with strong visual contrast.

Plant Characteristics

This variegated Begonia maculata features elongated, wing-shaped leaves with a smooth to lightly textured surface, dotted silver markings, and unique cream to pale green variegation. The undersides may show soft reddish tones, adding even more depth to its appearance. It grows in an upright, cane-like habit and can develop into a lush, statement indoor plant when given proper care. Mature plants may reach several feet tall over time in ideal conditions.

Care Guide

Provide bright, indirect light to maintain healthy growth and encourage stable variegation. Avoid harsh direct sun, which may burn the leaves. Water when the top layer of soil begins to dry, keeping the mix lightly moist but never soggy. This begonia prefers moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60% or higher. Keep temperatures between 65–80°F and protect the plant from cold drafts. Use a well-draining, airy soil mix with components such as peat, perlite, orchid bark, or coco chips.

Why Collectors Love It

Collectors love Begonia maculata Variegated for its dramatic spotted foliage, elegant angel-wing shape, and unpredictable variegation. Each plant has its own pattern, making every piece unique and highly collectible.
