Anthurium King Veitchii – Extra Mature Size (Anthurium veitchii) is one of the most iconic large-leaf Anthuriums, instantly recognizable by its long, dramatically ribbed foliage. This extra mature specimen offers a stronger visual impact and more established growth, making it an exceptional choice for collectors who appreciate architectural tropical plants and statement foliage.

Plant Characteristics

Anthurium veitchii produces elongated, strap-like leaves with a distinctive corrugated or pleated texture created by deeply defined lateral veins. Mature leaves can become impressively long and develop an elegant cascading appearance as the plant ages.

It has an upright, self-heading growth habit rather than a climbing habit. Under favorable greenhouse or indoor growing conditions, mature specimens can develop leaves several feet long, giving the plant its famous dramatic appearance. Growth is relatively steady when provided with warmth, humidity, consistent moisture, and good airflow.

Care Guide

Grow Anthurium King Veitchii in bright, indirect light. Avoid prolonged harsh direct sunlight, which may scorch the large foliage.

Water thoroughly when the upper layer of the growing medium begins to dry, but avoid keeping the roots constantly saturated. Moderate to high humidity, ideally around 60–80%, supports healthy foliage development.

Maintain temperatures around 65–85°F and protect the plant from cold drafts or prolonged temperatures below 55°F. Use a chunky, well-draining aroid mix containing materials such as orchid bark, coco chips, perlite, and other aeration components. Good drainage and airflow around the root system are especially important.

Care level: moderate.

Why Collectors Love It

Collectors love Anthurium veitchii for its extraordinary elongated leaves, deeply corrugated texture, and unmistakable architectural form. An extra mature specimen provides the impressive foliage and established presence that make the King Anthurium one of the most desirable statement Anthuriums for tropical plant collections.
